Frequently asked questions
What types of events are supported?
Grainger automated responses only supports request for quote events with goods-type line items. Any service or group line items will be ignored.
What makes a line item ineligible?
No Auto quote # or MFG # defined (buyer controlled)
UOM is different from Grainger’s accepted UOM (buyer controlled)
Item is out of stock (Grainger controlled)
Line item currencies are not the same (Grainger controlled)
Quantity is less than the minimum required order quantity from Grainger (Grainger controlled)
Will the Grainger sales representative be notified?
It depends. A Grainger sales representative is not contacted if all line items are eligible. However, an RFQ invitation email is sent if any line items are not eligible.
What if multiple Grainger sales representatives are invited?
If you’ve invited multiple Grainger sales representatives to the event, the automated response is only made for the first sales representative on the list. The remaining sales representatives will receive a standard email invitation to the event.
How can I tell if it is an automated response?
When you receive an automated response, you will see a “Via API” label next to the response. This simply means that the quote was automatically returned from Fairmarkit’s integrated flow with Grainger. In addition, an information banner will display on the response page. If the Grainger sales representative edits the response and resubmits it, the label is removed.

What happens on reopened events?
Grainger automated responses only run once per event. However, in the event that you didn’t initially invite a Grainger sales representative, and you reopen the event and invite them, the process runs, and you’ll receive a quote for eligible items.
How does Fairmarkit use my Grainger Account Number to get prices?
The prices quoted via integrated quoting are fetched with a customer/client Grainger account number. Fairmarkit can store the Grainger account number either at the company, client company, or location level and use this information to fetch the quote when an RFQ is opened. The Grainger integrated quoting flow will not work if the account number is not set/unavailable for a company/client/location.
Accounts linking: For information on how to link a specific Grainger account to a company, client, or location, see Integrated quoting.
How can I verify the account number with which a quote was created?
The supplier quote number for any quote created via the integrated quoting flow will contain the Grainger account number that was used to fetch the quote along with the date the quote was generated. The specific account number can be viewed on the quote review/award page.
